This looks like an interesting study. This grade level is not one that I am extremely familiar with, but I understand the value of programs such as this. I have two points to consider. Will you be comparing the data from participants in the after school program with students who do not participate in the program in order to measure the success of the program?
ReplyDeleteIt also might be interesting to consider the long term effect of the program if you can get current data regarding the past participants in the program. How has the program benefited the past participants for the long haul? That might extend your project beyond what your original scope; however it would give you some data to support the long-range effectiveness of the program. It is just a thought.
With your action research goal, understanding the relationship between student participants in after school intervention programs and their success in the TAKS test is a very good idea. To find out how well a relationship is working, or what strategies are being use to have the students master success on an particular objective, would be another ideas of your action research.
ReplyDeleteIn using and analyzing surveys, are there any alternatives in getting the data needed?
Having the students understand their success in the intervention program can transfer to any test is a vital part of the student becoming a life long learner. Sometimes getting them over the hump is difficult. The correlation between the actual program of helping those needs to fit and where they can be successful on the test is a good way building self-esteem.
